Effacement of foot processes of the podocytes cannot be seen on LM, but only on EM!
- Selective glomerular proteinuria
- Loss of negative charge of glomerular basement membrane
- Only small- to medium-sized proteins can be found in the urine (primarily albumin)
- Can be found in diseases with mild damage to the glomeruli, kind of specific for minimal change disease
